The spacious back yard of the house is a growing community of pets and wild critters. One of the reasons I wanted to do this project is because with all the room, we should be able to create an environment that is attractive to our bird friends as well as functional for our dogs.
We put up some feeders and a small fountain and it took several days before we were host to anything other than some clever scrub jays who are often first to find a new feeder.
The downy woodpecker in this picture is taking advantage of an old tree in one of our neighbor’s yard.
Our little fountain came with us on the move. it was popular with the birds at our last home. The goldfinches were the first to find it, followed shortly by some chickadees.
