First Day of Summer Pics

Most of the projects we’ve hoped to do in the yard this year have been completed. We started early. I remember shopping at a nursery a few days after we’d had snow in March. It was freezing as we walked around but we had fun picking out shrubs and picking the brains of the good people at Loen Nursery. We spent almost every weekend in our garden. We removed plants in the front yard and repositioned what we could in the back. A lot of the plants near the front door were sun lovers but this spot has become a dappled shade area and they were struggling up front. In went ferns, hydrangea, red-flowering currant, astilbe, vine maple, a hellebore.

In the back, we’ve created a new garden near the shed, planted a shrub garden where an old cedar fell a few years ago, removed a hawthorn tree, planted a garden from seed grown in our greenhouse. It has been a busy, productive spring.

Here are a few pics of things in bloom the first day of summer.
