Treasures

Buying a home from a family member is different than buying a home from anyone else.  Easier.  Less complicated in terms of trust issues about the home and what might be lurking under the surface that wasn’t disclosed.  In our case, we have a long experience with this home.  My mother lived in it for forty years.  I lived here from the time I was 13 until I married a few days before I turned 25.  We’ve spent countless holidays and birthday celebrations in this well-loved home over the years.

When mom passed away, my daughter and son-in-law bought it from my beloved step-dad, Jerry, and lived in it for a few years before realizing a home with a half-acre of yard work and tons of projects that needed to be addressed on the inside were too much for a young couple with a toddler and baby.

They inherited a ton of tools and yard implements and when we bought the home, we inherited the same tools.  A riding lawnmower, wood chipper, pressure washer and lots of other useful items.

We spent an entire Saturday trying to organize and clean the garage.  Hidden amongst items on shelving was this gem.  An old drill, most likely made in the 1960’s.

And several old wood planes.  I don’t remember a wood worker in our family and wonder if these were left by the original owners of the home.

We can’t bring ourselves to toss these.  It was fun to take 30 minutes out of an otherwise tedious day of cleaning to marvel at these treasures.
