Three New Thrones

“Bold Power”

The bathrooms in this house, in addition to needing to be updated, are barely functional when it comes to actual bathroom-related activities. That is to say that the toilets are troublesome flushers.

The two downstairs commodes are the most functionally inadequate. The one in the laundry area required the user to hold the flusher down for an extended period of time before it would successfully empty the bowl. The one in the full bathroom is a slow flusher where the water rises to an alarming point before actually disappearing down the drain.

The one upstairs is mechanically fine, but it is stained in such a way that it is pretty much un-cleanable.

So that’s three out of three toilets that could use upgrades. Combined with the fact that we will be having a dumpster delivered next week, there is a nice opportunity to get rid of the old ones if we replace them in the next few days.

One technical problem I have noticed is that the flanges in this house are very old. I may want to replace them when we do the downstairs floors. They aren’t adjustable and so the toilet points the way it points for now (which in the laundry area is about a half a degree or so off of square.) The other problem with them is that they sit higher than they should and so those new fangled seals that they sell these days are pretty much worthless as they create sort of a see-saw situation – which is not what you want when going about your business.

I am pretty much satisfied with the replacements. Having completed one transplant so far, the bad flushing behavior appears to be solved. Two more to go.
