As the yard starts coming into bloom, the bird species we are starting to see are expanding. The towhees and mourning doves are hanging around now and even a few white-crowned sparrows are foraging around in our debris pile left over from when we cut down the rose bushes.
Most recently, we have seen some gold crowned sparrows near the feeder. They hide in the lilacs and fly back and forth across the yard looking for seed that has fallen to the ground.

At first, we didn’t know if we would see the same birds that we used to enjoy at our old house in Beaverton, but almost all of them have found their way back into our habitat. Some of the sparrows we used to get on the edge of our wild green space are a bit more scarce here, but they are there. I can actually hear song sparrows sing in the night as we did at our old place.
One of the most gratifying things that is happening right now, is that we have a pair of chickadees nesting in the box that we brought with us to this house. We had such great success with that same nest box in the past. However, this is a new location with a different orientation to the sun, a different amount of shade and so on.
I hope they are successful.
