Hello Nervous One

Shy Visitor

One of the more amusing birds we have around are the scrubjays. They swoop in boldly and will scatter smaller birds as they land on a branch. They call out loudly and don’t seem to care who is watching as they gobble up seed by the beakfull.

By contrast, the Evening Grosbeak is as shy as can be. They sing beautifully, but usually when safely perched high in a tree. They won’t go for the seed feeders if I am standing nearby. Then they fly away at the slightest provocation. Here at the new house, they are more abundant than at the last place, but they are just as timid.

I felt lucky to get close enough to take this picture.
