Cabinet Day

Clean slate

Today was a very eventful day. A huge amount of progress happened and it feels great to be moving ahead. Being without a kitchen so long has really been a struggle and it is getting worse. We are getting takeout more often and the weather is colder outside which makes it less appealing to do dishes and cook out there regularly.

So, seeing the cabinets delivered yesterday was like a light at the end of the tunnel.

Staged

The workers started in on unboxing the cabinets and moving them into place. They look so white and clean. I’m eyeing things and for the most part, it is all going in really nicely.

Peninsula going in

Over the course of this project, I have had a few frustrations over mistakes and miscommunications. Personally, I am a slow worker when doing home projects, but I get bothered by imperfections. For example, I spent three days fixing a crack in one of the bedroom walls. You’d have thought I was making a sculpture out of joint compound.

Fix-A-Crack

So when something isn’t right, it bugs me and I complain. I joked today that if I weren’t paying attention, I’d probably be a lot happier, but I sort of feel like I have to watch what is going on and be available for questions.

The cabinet installers were good at what they were doing, though. I managed to get through the day without having stroke. Shelly also painted two rooms which I think look fantastic.

Laundry!
The new nerve center of our home

Overall, I am really pleased with the cabinets. I think they look good in the room. I love that the soffits are gone and the crown moulding. I like the hardware and the wall colors we chose for the laundry and kitchen. Today was a huge day and it feels great to make a big leap forward like this.
