From Dream to Do Season

Clematis armandii ‘Snowdrift’

We have had a very mild winter this year. Lots and lots of rain. It is Oregon, for Pete’s sake. But a few weeks ago, we finally got some sunshine and spring-like weather. We have been working outside ever since.

I have to admit the first week or two, I felt incredibly overwhelmed. Ready to hire a garden service overwhelmed. The weeds had taken over every bed. So many weeds. But I put my head down and started to slowly work my way around the garden beds. We filled up 3 large yard-debris cans with just weeds.

We’ve finally got the weed situation under control, for now. Next came pruning the raspberries, roses and shrubs. And planning all the things we want to do this spring. We placed our seed order this morning and Tygh has been working on building raised-bed planters for the vegetable garden. We joke that for gardeners like us, winter is the season to dream. Spring is the season to do. And the doing has begun!

It’s so much fun to walk around the garden and see everything budding out.

Crimson Red Rhubarb

I’m so looking forward to harvesting rhubarb this year. There will be pies and sauces in just a few months.

Next on my to-do list is getting the grass and weeds out of our existing raised planters. How does this happen? How does the grass get into the planter itself? Ugh. It’s sunny today and I think I will get this job off my list.

  1. You have been working like crazy this spring. It takes gumption to step out into this wild backyard with just your weeder and a vision. I couldn’t be more proud.
