Tiny New Lives

Now look what I’ve gone and done. Here they are, just a few days old and I am getting into a rhythm little by little.

Autumn has provided some names, “Monster Truck”, “Sunflower”, “Raindrop”, which leaves one name that I may have to come up with. Honestly, it may be tricky to tell them apart once they are grown, but we name our pets and so it’s kind of expected.

Right now, they are staying in a large box I constructed in my office. It has a heat lamp, food, water and shavings. They have terrible housekeeping skills, but their cuteness makes up for a lot.

They get out into the yard once a day and I have tried to handle them for a few minutes each day as well (they do not like this). We started putting little baking pans with water in the yard so they can splash around. They are probably ready for their first real swim in the next day or two.

We do worry a little bit about Nina. She stares at them intently and licks her chops. Today, I told her to stay back and she did though. It gives me hope, but it’s probably false hope that she’ll learn to ignore them.

Desensitizing The Dog

One thing the ducklings absolutely love, is lettuce. We shred it up and put it in their splashing water and they gobble it up as fast as they can. They eat quite a bit in general and it is no wonder that they are getting so big.
