Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are now in the rear view along with 2019. It was a year full of heartbreak and loss and also successes and discovery.
As we had planned, we were able to host a lovely Thanksgiving with our remodeled downstairs, more oven space, and a lighter, refreshed look to our home. This house has been the nexus of our family for decades now and I feel like we are bringing it closer to its potential.
- Room to gather
- The capacity to cook for a small army
- Warmth and atmosphere to welcome everyone
- A big garden to grow the things we love to make and share

Christmas is almost a whole month after Thanksgiving, but in retrospect, it feels like we are still clearing the plates when it comes around.

These gatherings are important to us. For me, it brings to mind to the annual celebrations my family always held when I was younger. Later, when Shelly and I were just getting started, I was lucky to find that in this new family, too.
People don’t spontaneously congregate and prepare feasts. It takes the force of will and repetition, traditions and a routine of making the trip, bringing something that you made to the party and being there to enjoy the company of your loved ones. It also helps to have a place with the right geography and architecture to make it work.
